Atropos, for Concert Band/Harmonie, Score

'Atropos' is one of the three goddesses of fate. Atropos cuts the thread of life of a person whenever their time has come. She works alongside Clotho, who spins the thread, and Lachesis who determines the length of the thread. Although the title suggests that the composition 'Atropos' is sinister or sad in character, the contrary is true. The work has a positive nature. Although one can not change ones's destiny, one should enjoy life to the fullest.The composition is film-like and presents challenges in sound, balance and rhythm. The work opens in a quiet mood in which the themes are presented. After this a rhythmical passage follows in which these themes areused and further developed. Finally all the elements are combined and we are led to a sparkling apotheosis that is demanding in its melodic phrasing and requires stamina from the musicians.
